The biography of the group began in July 1972. Her origins stood Boris Grebenshchikov (BG) along with Anatoly Gornitsky. The team was unfordished for some time. Friends walked along the streets of Leningrad and moved the phrases that could describe their work. The word "aquarium" arose in the head accidentally and immediately became native.
As it usually happens with young rock bands, the rehearsal did not matter. The first concert musicians were given only in the spring of 1973 in Zelenogorsk, and then in the St. Petersburg restaurant "Telum". For the performance, the artists received 50 rubles. The repertoire consisted of songs of his own essay and from the Beatles hits.
During the existence of the collective, the composition of the participants has changed repeatedly: 45 vocalists, 26 guitarists, 16 bassists, 35 drummers, 18 keyboard players and 89 musicians who own wind and string instruments, at one time put her hand to the work of the group. The first concerts of the Aquarium played in the following composition: BG on the guitar, Anatoly Gunitsky for the drums, Alexander Tsansanidi with a bass guitar, Vadim Vasilyev behind the keys, and Valery Vergelov regulated the sound.
At the beginning of the group's creativity, a logo appeared - with a point above the letter "A". The plan of this point soloist explained this: "The circle over a shows that it is not an ordinary, but a secret letter A." Since then, the logo changed only once - in the album "Taba" in 1982 at the end of the "Aquarium" a question mark appeared. He testified to heavily times in the team.
Music
The 1st album was released in 1974 and was called the "Temptation of the Holy Aquarium". Until 1997, the record was considered lost, but it was re-released in 2001 in the "Prehistoric Aquarium". And here is the 2nd plate, "Menuet Agriculture" and not found. In the spring of 1975, the 3rd column "Proverbs of the graph of the diffuser" came out.A loud statement about himself "Aquarium" made at the Rock Festival in Tbilisi in 1980. The musicians behaved on the stage of outrageous and boldly, which the members of the jury did not appreciate: during the performance of BG lay on the stage, and they retired from the audience. Then the group was accused of homosexuality and incest. About such an assessment of the creativity of the team learned in Leningrad. Upon returning home, BG was fired from work and kept from Komsomol.
The loss did not upset the leader of the group, and in January 1981 the 1st studio plate "Blue Album" came out. Music had reggae motifs. In the spring of the same year, this collection of "Aquarium" was accepted in the ranks of the Leningrad Rock Club. Over the next years, "Aquarium", in spite of everything, released records. One of the main hits of the team and his business card became the song "Rock and Roll Dead" from the album "Radio Africa".
Perseverance and the audacity of the group gave fruit - at the end of 1983 it was included in the top ten rock collectives according to the Moscow Komsomol Center. "Aquarium" ranked 3rd after the "dynamics" and "time machine".
And in 1986, their creativity was included in the Red Wave vinyl collection, which was released in the United States with a circulation of 1.5 thousand copies. This fact made an impetus to the recognition of the collective and in the USSR - the first official, and not the underground plate "White Album" came out. She combined the musical works from the "Day of Silver" and "Children of December".
Clips "Aquarium" began to produce since 1988. In video believers, the Group unveiled its hits "train on fire", "Moscow October", "Masha and the Bear", "Brod" and many others.
1987 can be considered the year of the indigenous fracture in the history of the team. Twice to this rock team performed in the "Music Ring" transmission, and now the broadcast was allowed on the first public-union program. In March, the Junior Magazine called the "Aquarium" the best musical ensemble of the country, and BG is the best musician. 5 songs of the group "voiced" film Sergey Solovyov "ACCA", and then left a separate disk as a soundtrack.
Since 1988, the team left abroad, performed in Canada, however, often without a ideological inspirer - BG gave solo concerts in the United States. A year later, the English-language album Radio Silence came out, a film about which ("Long road home") was shown on MTV.
It was an unsuccessful attempt of Soviet rock musicians to conquer the West. BG signed a contract with a CBS company to release 8 plates, but released only Radio Silence. Over the collection, the musicians worked together with the superpopular then by the Eurythmics group, and Annie Lennox sang on the back val, but the album took the album in the English and American Billboard only 200th and 198s.
From this point on, in the history of the collective, "troubled time" began. The guys created individual musical projects, sought to leave the "Aquarium". On March 14, 1991, at a concert in DS "Jubilee" in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Leningrad Rock Club, the Group announced its dissolution.
In 1992, "Aquarium 2.0" gathered. They recorded 7 collections, including the Russian Album, "Favorite Ramses IV songs", etc. In 1997, the news of the "death" of the musical team appeared again.
As part of the 3rd convocation of the Aquarium, the musicians released the albums "Sister Chaos", "Fisherman's Songs", Zoom Zoom Zoom, etc. Artists actively gave concerts both in Russia and abroad: in France, Italy, Spain, Germany, India, Greece; Systematic recorded new plates and updated old compositions. In 2012, the team went to a tour dedicated, according to Grebenshchikov, the "4000th anniversary of the group".
Since 2015, concerts give the 4th convocation of the team: now the team includes its permanent leader BG, Alexander Titov, Alexey Zubarev, Andrei Suddinov, Brian Finnegan, Gleb Krenershikov, Liam Bradley and Konstantin Tumanov.
In October 2017, the Rock Group discography was replenished with a mini-album "The doors of the grass", which includes 3 songs from early creativity, as well as new compositions recorded in Paris.
In the 2020s, the group pleased fans with the collections of "George Songs", "Dan" (Caverits), "Aquarium in Dub" (in reggae style). Musicians planned a tour of the cities of Russia, Belarus, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia. But in March, due to the difficult situation in the world, the team postponed concerts indefinitely. On the eve of the 2021th group released the 23rd Studio Album "Tor". The collection includes 9 songs, 7 of which the musicians had already performed at concerts or released individual singles: "Revenge of the Queen Anna", "Boy-Baba", etc. The exception was the tracks of "Bernie and Chiana" and "Wheel with the Champs Elysees", which As part of the records are presented for the first time.
According to Grebenshchikov, in the album it was conceived with unnecessary songs and Internet singles over the past 10 years. Since the collection was made up of diverse compositions, the musicians carried out the necessary processing so that the existing material becomes a connected story about today.
