Biography

The French painter of William Bugro is called a brilliant artist, who for all his life created not one hundred paintings, but forgot about him for a whole century. He became the brightest representative of the salon academicism, but real art connoisseurs understood it later. For a long time the author's work was criticized and not paid attention.

Childhood and youth

William was born in the fall of 1825 in the port city of France La Rochelle. His parents brought up more seven children. Father Theodore Bugro headed a small wine warehouse, and Marie Bonnin's mother was engaged in the economy. At the age of 12, Bugro Jr. went to receive education to the uncle, which was a priest, and after 2 years he got into a Catholic college.

The boy began to show interest in drawing early, and during his study, the Louis Sayager teacher, who he himself had once studied at the great Jean Engra, has passed his experience and skill. After a couple of years, his father called his son to Bordeaux, as he expanded the case and he needed an assistant in the store. In the morning, the young man began to attend school, and in the afternoon he helped his father.

Personal life

Despite the long and hard work, Bugro found time and personal life. A man was married twice, the first wife of the artist became the simulator of Marie-Nelli Monchall, with which he officially concluded marriage only after 10 years of relationship. In total, the wife gave William five children, but only two people managed to survive, the rest died from tuberculosis, and in 1877 Marie also died.

Although the man was very worried about the loss, he later decided to create a family again. This time his chosen was his favorite student - artist Elizabeth Gardner. Before issuing a relationship, for many years a couple met unofficially, their marriage was hampered by the mother and daughter of the painter.

Painting

In the capital of France, Bugro turned out to be in 1846, there he brought acquaintance with Francois Pico, which recommended the student to enter the school of fine arts. Having learned there, a couple of times he participated in the competition, where the winner was a prestigious Roman Prize. She would allow William a couple of years to spend in Italy from the best teachers. The young man was lucky not immediately, only from 3rd times he managed to become a winner with the Bodry field. The winnings were divided in half.

In Rome, at Villa, William became acquainted with the landscape of Curzon's landscape field, with whom the major cities were together and visited significant places. I also met the works of Korredjo, Botticelli and Michelangelo. All this time, a man did not stop painting and in Italy learned to transfer the character of the characters at the expense of their gestures, mastered the technique of working out the smallest details and depicted the figures in motion.

When Bugro returned back, a new style appeared in his biography - he began to work on religious plots. It caused interest from churches, so soon William began to receive orders and for the design of church interiors. Then he took up the design of the Bartholoni mansion, for which the premium of the Paris Salon was awarded. For such great achievements in the work in 1859, he was awarded the title of Cavaller the Order of the Honorary Legion.

Having achieved some recognition, over the years, Bugro moved away from mythological and historical plots. From this time, his painting passed lighter topics - family scenes, portraits, images of peasants. The painting "Holy Family" acquired the wife of Napoleon III - Empress Eugene. At the same time, William began to appear first work with the image of naked women.

In total, the artist created more than 8 hundred works, photo paintings do not pass all their charm, but allow you to evaluate the skill.

Death

William did not live up to 80 years a couple of months - in the summer of 1905 in the hands of his wife Elizabeth. The cause of the death of the artist was heart disease, caused by its chronic fatigue and addiction to alcohol and smoking.

With the onset of the new century, France changed the vector of views on art, and with the arrival of modernism, the work of William quickly forgot. His canvases were committed to abandonment almost per century, and the name criticized. And only after 100 years, the brilliant talent of Bugro was appreciated by a new look.
