The English writer has devoted more than 50 years of peace, populated people, magicians, elves, hobbits and other fictional heroes. In addition, he paid attention to the creation of languages, in particular the elven. The author came up with and outlined the myths and history of the creation of this universe on paper.
But with Tolkien's life, only 2 full-fledged works were published - the trilogy "Lord of the Rings" and "Hobbit". Meanwhile, the characters of these books and their biography can be traced in dozens of unknown to the general public novels.
Interestingly, when the writer began to create a legend about the Hobbit Frodo (in sketches - bingo), the concept of black riders was blurry. By 1938, John Tolkien called the transformation of a certain black figure in Nazgul "inequately challenged."
By the way, the ring itself is initially positioned as a magical decoration, which gives the owner the opportunity to become invisible. Much later, he had a connection with Sauron and it covered the prehistory.
Then black riders found the role of ghosts. Over the next 3 years, the author engaged in the development of plot lines between them and the main antagonist of the trilogy. And to the final vision, Tolkien came only in the chapter called "Mirror Galadriel" in 1941.

Their appearance is quite originally: these are high riders with stuffing stuff. Despite the fact that the characters were not visible, their bodies retained materiality. Therefore, Ulairi wore black raincoats, from which only boots were visible. The face they hid a hood.
When Frodo puts on the ring, it opens the true image of the ghosts. It becomes clear that they are dressed in white Savans and walled gloves and shoes - attributes of Gothic (German) armor. From weapons, black riders wear long swords and daggers.

The battle with the "nine" promises death, because the opponents are literally paralyzed with the approach of riders. And animals begin to scatter, fearing the meeting with ghosts. The leader of this team, the king of Angmar, brought horror on enemies in those days when he was man.
However, the heroes of the trilogy managed to avoid death. So, Ehlf Arven saved Frodo, spoke to the river. In the Battle of Pelennorsk Fields, the leader of invisible accepted death from the hands of Eovin and Meriadoca.
In the final of the work, the ring of All-Russia turned out to be overthow, Sauron went to nothing. Nazgalam did not have anything left, except to follow him. Inseparably linked by the power of the Witchcraft artifact, they lost their latest support.
