Outstanding domestic film director Alexey Okabinovich Balabanov was born on February 25, 1959 in Sverdlovsk (now Ekaterinburg). Alexey's childhood passed in his hometown, the future master did not differ from his peers and did not show much interest in art. Like many children, Balabanov dreamed of unexplored distant countries and travel - perhaps this is explained by his passion for foreign languages, the knowledge of which he expected to apply in future wanders.

In 2000, Alexei Balabanov removed a film telling about the further fate of the chief hero of the film "Brother". The film "War" (2002) caused Balabanov's accusations in non-capacies, actions are held in the North Caucasus during the second Chechen war.
