The life of the artist suddenly broke off on August 5, 1987. The man arrived in Moscow after filming the picture "Cold Summer Fifty-thirds ..." in Karelia. He was going to visit his wife in Riga, where she had tourists with the theater at the time. After the road, Anatoly Dmitrievich had a bathroom, but in the house at that moment there was no hot water. There was no one in the house who could call an ambulance and prevent the death of Anatoly Dmitrievich. The actor's body was discovered several days later.
The grave of Anatoly Papanova is located at the Novodevichy Moskdom Cemetery. A few days after the funeral of the artist, his friend and colleague Andrei Mironov died, who replaced Papanova in the touring performances of the Satira Theater.
