Vladimir was born in St. Petersburg in the family of the famous film operator Naumova Solomonovich Naumova-Guard, who shot films still in a pre-war. The stars of the Soviet screen were often located in the house of Naum, and Volodya grew, surrounded by creative people. Of course, graduating from school, he decided and tie his life with cinema himself.
Vladimir Naumov went to Moscow and entered the directorial Faculty of Vgika. There, His mentor and artistic director was Igor Savchenko, director of historical paintings "Duma about Cossack Golota" and "Bogdan Khmelnitsky". The creative biography of Vladimir Naumova was actually already started while studying. Back in his student years, Vladimir Naumov assisted his teacher in the paintings of the "third strike" and "Taras Shevchenko". The most successful films of the creative duet of the directors are considered to be film "Run" and Detective "Tehran-43". After Alexander Alov died, Vladimir Naumov began to work alone. And first of all, he removed the documentary tape "Alov" about his respected partner and a good friend. Then until the end of the 80s, films were published as "choice", "law", "ten years without the right of correspondence."
In the first years after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the director for his own scenario removed the drama "White Holiday". Initially, he planned in the lead role of the legendary Italian Marchello Mastroanni, but then replaced him with no less beautiful actor Innocent Smoktunovsky, for which this film became a final point in his career.
By the way, with Mastroanni, the director began to make another picture - "Master Marcello," but because of the death of the actor, the tape was not over.
Vladimir Naumov also pays great attention to teaching and educational activities, as well as organizational part of work in cinema, cultural and social spheres. Since 1963, Vladimir Naumov has been held by the head of the creative association of the Mosfilm film studio. Since 1976, the director has worked as the Secretary of the Board of the UK USSR.
Vladimir Naumovich also taught at the highest directorial courses. Since 1980, the famous director leads the workshop of Vgika, and six years after receiving the leadership of the workshop, Vladimir Naumov became a professor in his own discipline and continued teaching at the new level.
In addition, Vladimir Naumov leads a workshop of game movies in the All-Russian Institute of Retraining and Strengthening the Qualifications of Cinematography Workers of Goskino Russia.
In 2002, Vladimir Naumov took the post of first president of the National Academy of Cinematographic Sciences and Arts.

Personal life
In 1954, Vladimir Naumov married the film actress Elsa Ledzhdej, which included the acting of his own films "Pavel Korchagin" and "Wind". From this marriage, Vladimir has a son Alexey, but with Elsa Naumov lived only 4 years.
The second time, Vladimir Naumov married in 1974 and again on the actress - Natalia Belochvostova. After a year and a half, the spouses were born a daughter, which was named after Mother Natasha. Natalia Naumova, when he grew up, went in the footsteps at once both parents - became the actress and director.
Since fate did not give the spouses of common grandchildren, Vladimir Naumov and Natalia Belochvostikova in 2007, took from the orphanage a three-year-old boy Kirill, who was adopted and brought up as a native child.

In November 2017, Vladimir Naumov's films "Pavel Korchagin" and "Run" entered the selection of 25 selected movies, reflected the topic of revolution and civil war, which selected the Cascade Cultural Center for the show. The cultural center prepared for the 100th anniversary of the revolution, the new exposition "was born by the revolution", where the selected films entered.
