The history of the collective began in the winter of 1979. In December, Yuri Shevchuk, the leader of a small group, and Vladimir Sigachev - the Team Keyman who spent in the Ufa DC "Avangard".

Shevchuk in 1999 actively urged to support the integrity of Yugoslavia, criticized the West policies and filmed a movie for UNESCO about destroyed Christian churches in Kosovo.
The updated composition of DDT in the early 2000s changed the sound by adding an electronic component. Shevchuk at that time worked on a new conceptual program, part of the songs from which entered the "Unity" cycle. The album was not successful.
In 2005, the album "Missing", which marked the quarter of the century "DDT" on the scene. The output of the disk was accompanied by a large tour of the group in the cities of Russia. In 2008, Yuri Shevchuk again tried the role of peacemaker. The artist performed together with Georgian and Ossetian teams with the program "Do Not Shoot!", Calling for a peaceful settlement of armed conflict in South Ossetia.
In early 2010, the team went to the scene in support of the House of Hope House's Rehabilitation Center, after which the DDT participants played at a charitable party to collect funds for children suffering from cancer.
