Nikolay Arutyunov was born in Moscow in April 1958, but the early years of the biography of the musician fell on Kremenchug, where the father was transferred to work. Sang Nicholas, on his own confession, always, how much I remembered. In the 6th grade began playing in the school ensemble.
At first, the musical preferences of the artist were based on blues and coil. Hardwood, Harutyunov listened to Procol Harum, Yes, Emerson Lake & Palmer. Singer and now calls their compositions ambitious.
Having received a certificate, Nikolai entered the university in Kalinin at the Faculty of Philology, but he studied only a year - a student who in the first place was rock and roll, were expelled. He was still educated in the metropolitan pedagogical institute. Then several years worked as a teacher of Russian language and literature.
And all this time, the thrust for music did not give rest, "this is the air to which I breathe, and it was necessary to make work," because then there was a team of the Blues League. If it were not for restructuring, the musician would not have come out of the underground.
Music
The group "League Blues", founded in 1979, in the 80s passed to a professional level. About the genre of the team spoke the name itself. The composition, according to Nicholas, was called "notable": Sergey Voronov and Alexey Astashev, Maria Katz and Boris Bulkin. The songs were written by Arutyunov, Karen Kavaleria and Margarita Pushkin. The discography "League" was replenished with 3 albums.
In the 90s, the blues gave way to Hard-Rock and the project called Thursday Harutyunov, who performed by the Caverits of English-speaking compositions. Then followed by the collaboration of Nikolai Harutyunov & Funky Soul, cooperation with Minsk teams The Blues Barbarians and Krama, where the soloist, in addition to Russian and English, sang in Belarusian, performances as a vocalist with the British group The Boze Band.
Perform rock, blues, jazz, and even Indian motifs within the same group, the singer did not consider it possible - this did not correspond to the concept of each team. In addition to the economic crisis, the change in the sentiments was influenced by the "itching of solo creativity" among other musicians, and limit people in their desire is not good. Yes, and Nikolai in the "League" no longer felt the same freedom.
"Thursday Arutyunova" existed for 3 years, during which the performer is imbued with stylistry and manner of Hard-rock, played favorite songs. However, the colleague Dmitry Thurspenas sought to modernize the sound, and Nikolay preferred traditionalism. Musicians broke up with friends, and Arutyunov turned to no less beloved Funk.
The repertoire of the Funky Soul consisted of still from English and American compositions. The singer did not want to translate the texts again due to the band's stylistics and because in the sound in the original language, the voice is an additional soling tool. And when executed in Russian, the meaning is involuntarily perceived, which sometimes spoils the overall picture.
Nevertheless, in 2008, Harutyunov experimented with FANK-collective and recorded the Russian-speaking album "Nikolay Arutyunov & Funky Soul".
In 2006, an advertising agency appealed to Nikolai, who won a competition for campaign to promote Sochi as the capital of the Olympiad. The singer at that time was tightly engaged in commercials and was known as a supporter of the "living" sound. So the song "Games that we deserve" appeared.
However, the final product that has come down to the viewer is radically different about what Harutyun offered. According to the author, the producers "the head worried is notable, and then I realized that, probably, people wanted their arranger to work something too." Although what happened, it sounds fun.
In 2009, Arutyunov began working on the radio, conducted the transfer of "historical justice", where he told about musical groups, whose names knew only a narrow circle of true fans.
In 2014, it was a turn of the genre progressive. Nikolai dreamed of working with Art Rock-team, but I understood that it was impossible to create my own from scratch, so I joined the group "Quorum", whose manner of the game reminded Genesis and Camel.
Progressive rock, according to Arutyunov, is more complicated than what was previously fulfilled. Blues, soul and hard rock are root genres, and the style of "quorum" involves tracking harmony, size and shape. Nikolay took some inner restructuring, vocal and ideologically mental.
In the new team, the singer did not change his own preferences, everything also executes the classics of the 70s and 1980s: Emerson and Van Der Graaf Generator, Darryl Way`s Wolf and Pink Floyd, Curved Air and Atomic Rooster, King Crimson, Argent. In addition, the "quorum" has accumulated and its material, which the group played even before the arrival of Arutyunov. The soloist is counting on the fact that in the future will create joint compositions with the team.
Personal life
About the family Nikolai Arutyunov knows little. Together with his wife, the singer raised Son Sergey, from which, according to his father, a great manager turned out.
The young man advised his parents to invest in the purchase of an ancient 46-room castle in the Czech Republic, where the family planned to live later, and first arrived on vacation. With real estate, 3 years later, it was necessary to part for the reason for the large number of Arutyunov's concerts and employment on the radio.
Nikolay Arutyunov Now
In August 2018, Nikolai Harutyunov and "Quorum" became chadliners of the Festival "Rock Panorama". The event originated in the mid-80s received a second breath in 2016.Back in 2013, Nikolai said in an interview with "arguments and facts", not going to participate in the "voice" like some of his colleagues (then Andrei Davidyan came to the scene). However, after 5 years, the audience saw the legend of blues on the "blind auditions" of the next television season, this time attracted musicians aged 60 and older.
Arutyunov struck the jury on the first attempt by the execution of the Mercedes Benz composition, which became one of the last songs in the life of the famous American vocalist Janice Joplin. Despite the fact that the team of mentors listened to this not one professional, they could not miss such a participant. Nikolai chose the team under the leadership of Leonid Agutin, who, by the way, turned to the singer, after some thought.
