Biography

Childhood and youth
Terrence Vance Guiliam was born on November 22, 1940 in the American city of Minneapolis, Minnesota. His father James Hall Gilliam first worked as a sales representative of FOLGERS coffee company, and then retrained to a carpenter. In this regard, in 1952, the family moved together with three children to California, in the suburb of Los Angeles called Panorama City.
There, the boy went to the Birmingham High School, where he soon distinguished himself and became president of the class. Brought up on classic American cartoons, among whom were the "Treasure Island" and "Pinocchio", Terry carried away drawing and filed high hopes as an artist.
In the high school classes, the young man was enthusiastically read by the Satir Mad magazine and admired caricatures and parodies created by Don Martin and Antonio Prokhias. This publication influenced the worldview of Terry, and he in the soul became a skeptic and rebellion, nevertheless chosen by the King of the Graduation Ball.
At the end of the school, Guiliam received a bachelor's degree in political science in the West College of Los Angeles. In the student years, the young man continued to draw and publish in the youth newspaper. Soon some of his work appeared in the New York edition Help! Terry for 3 years worked as an illustrator in his favorite magazine and received experience, finally formed his views on the world. In addition, the young man got acquainted with the English reporter by John with the Clize, who later invited his comedian in the Monti-Paiton's comedian troupe.

Gilliam settled in London and first worked as an animator in the humorous program "Do not twist the setting knob." On the set, the artist got acquainted with the actors of Terry Jones, Michael Palain and Eric Idle, with which, after closing the project, organized the comedy show "Flying Circus Monti Paiton".
At that time, the visual art of Gilliam was characterized by a combination of figures with bulbous forms and soft gradients, which were background for moving clippings from ancient photographs.
In 1978, Terry described these techniques in the book "Animations of Mortality", which became partial autobiography of the animator and guidelines for the use of the visualization language.
Films
Kinobiography Gilliam began in 1974, when he appeared on the screen in the Sketches "Monti Payton", "Night of the Elections" and "The most terrible family in Britain." He was invited to be filmed, because no one wanted to play a "screaming commentator" and "screaming a sofa". In the 1990s, Terry took the next step in the creative career and removed the film "King-Rybak", "12 monkeys" and "Fear and Hate in Las Vegas", which were combined geographically and got the name "Thrilogy of Americana". This time the plots were less fantastic, but still confusing and surreal.
The public did not understand the depth of the Gilliam's talent and believed his work ridiculous, brightly painted chaos, woven into the flow of the consciousness of "finished psychos." Critics and producers supported a general opinion and in every way prevented the activities of the director.

Personal life
Since 1973, Gilliam's wife is a British costume and makeup artist Maggie Weston. The couple got acquainted on the set of Monti Paiton and have not parted since then.
From 1978 to 1988, three children were born in the director's family: Girls Holly and Amy and Harry's boy. Having matured, the younger generation of Gillimians participated in several Father movies.
Terry landscaped personal life in the UK and in 2006 refused American citizenship due to disagreement with President George Bush-Jr. President. Now the director is allowed to remain in the United States not more than 30 days a year.
