The history of creation and composition

The group was established in 1996 in the city commune of Kemi. Sonata Arctica performs compositions in the Power Metal genre. Initially, the musicians chose another name - Tricky Beans, these names were released by three songs. It then changed to Tricky Means. This was due to the fact that the team chose another direction of music, which does not change today. For such changes, the musicians inspired the creativity of the Finnish group of Stratovarius.

The team recorded the Fullmoon demo. A huge role in the history of the creation of a group was performed by the owner of the record company Ahti Korteinen, who accidentally heard the song. It was pleasantly surprised by pure vocals and high-quality sound, so he recommended novice musicians to show their jobs by the Spinefarm Records label. In collaboration with this company Tricky Means in 1999, they recorded the first album Ecliptica and changed the name on Sonata Arctica.

Participants of the team were Vocalist Tony Kakko, drummer Tommy Portimo, bass guitarist Pentti Peura. The latter played in the team until 1999. The composition of the group changed several times. Subsequently, Sonata Arctica joined Pasist Caugpinen, keyboard player Henrik Klingenberg and guitarist Elias Wilianen

Music

The first single called Sonata Arctica was called unopened. When he enrolled in music stores, it turned out that the entry by mistake was slowed down, so the participants rewritten a song. In 2000, the team went to a tour where he worked on heating from the famous Stratovarius with Rhapsody, and released the album Successor.

The release of the second full-fledged Disc Silence, written by Tony Kakko, took place in 2001. His sales surpassed expectations and exceeded 30 thousand copies in the first year. In November 2002, the musicians presented the first SONGS OF SILENCE concert album.

In 2003, Winterheart's Guild disk. Four compositions from it were recorded with the keyboard player Stratovarius Jens Johansson. Victoria's SECRET song from the collection Several weeks held the first positions in charts. After the release of the album Sonata Arctica ceased to cooperate with the Spinefarm Records label and concluded a contract with the German sound recording company Nuclear Blast.

In 2004, Reckoning Night. DON'T Say A Word's song rose to the first position in the charts. During this period, the musicians performed at the Nightwish concerts as part of a joint tour and released the Joint DVD End of An ERA.

In 2007, discography was replenished with UNIA's work. A year later, the musicians went to a big tour and visited concerts in the cities of the United States and the UK. In early 2009, the team performed in Europe, the USA, Australia, Japan, China, Taiwan. On September 30, a concert was held in Milan, who was shot on video and released on DVDs.

Simultaneously with a dense concert schedule and shooting clips, the group recorded songs. In 2009, the release of the Album The Days of Grays, which received the status of gold on the day of exit.

In the seventh plate Stones Grow Her Name, the release of which took place in 2012, the performers paid great importance to the sound of concert versions of ballad. Since 2014, Sonata Arctica has recorded an album, collaborating with Xandria, Van Canto, Stream Of Passion, Arven, Powerglove, Timeless Miracle. A year later, in 2015, a collection of a tribute to Sonata Arctica was published.

In September 2019, the group presented a new album Talviyö. From Finnish language, the name is translated as "Winter Night".
