Biography
German artist Gerhard Richter, who became one of the greatest creators of modernity, spent more than half a century in experiments with a huge spectrum of technician and styles and created paintings and installations in the directions of pop art, abstraction and photorealism. Like a teenager, drawing graffiti on the city wall, the master and now continues to engage in the creative process that is an outstanding work of art.Childhood and youth
Gerhard Richter was born on February 9, 1932. At that time, the mother of the future artist was barely 25 years old, and his father still studied mathematics and physics in the Higher Technical School. The child forced a couple to think about the future, and they began to look for professions. Hildegard has mastered the specialty of the seller of the bookstore, and Horst became a rural teacher who joined the National Socialists.
In 1936, the family moved to Rayhenau's island, and after a while sister Gerhard Gizel was born there. Not obliged to attend the political meetings of the Hitler's party, Horst was engaged in learning the son of mathematics, and Hildegard, who had unlimited access to literature, introduced a boy with magical fairy tales and verses.
As a result, at the school age, Gerhard was a comprehensively developed child who did not favor the exact science and decided to do creativity. After the 10th grade, he mastered the specialty of the artist of advertising and scenery, and then worked as a master of the master-designer and from the second attempt to be entered into the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts.
In the graduation course, Richter created the first independent works and as a thesis presented the wall paintings "Communication with Picasso" and "the joy of life."
In the late 1950s, shortly before the separation of Germany, a beginner master moved to the Western Territory and continued to education at the Academy in Dusseldorf. And precisely this time, it became the beginning of a real creative career, which was under the influence of the abstractionist Karl Otto Gotets and other artists immigrated from the east.
Painting
Gerhard created the gray imitation of "photo images" "Ghostly interceptors" and "Motor Boat", which are still considered one of its most revolutionary and well-known early works. This style of painting was born from the merger of traditional methods of drawing with pictures published in the newspapers, and the technique of creating paintings was projected into the canvas of selected photos, followed by a blurred brush or mop.
In parallel with the monochrome, the artist began to create colorful shaped work, having released a whole series of species on the city, clouds and mountains. Soon, they were joined by color charts based on patterns and chance, awarded in 1967, the "Young West" artistic premium. At the next stage, Gerhard's career wrote a series of "48 portraits", depicting Albert Einstein, Thomas Manna, Franz Kafka and other intellectuals.
Not distracted by abstractions, in the 1980s, Richter continued to work on plot paintings and wrote photoreline portraits of family members and became the cult series "Candles" and "October 18, 1977", which were based on staged still lifes and press images of a terrorist organization acting Under the name "Banda Baader - Mainhof".
At that time, he lived and worked in Cologne, where he created a stained glass window of 11.5 thousand squares for the famous Roman Catholic Gothic Cathedral. In this city, the artist organized a permanent creative workshop and wrote the Betty cloth, "Meditation", "reading" and "Moritz", partly demonstrated at the retrospective exhibition of 2002, held in the New York Museum of Contemporary Art.
Personal life
Shortly before the construction of the Berlin Wall, Richter was combined with a marriage with a woman named Marianna, who became a prototype for the cult painting "Ema", also known as the "Woman descending on the stairs". She dedicated to her the "Iceberg" cannon, written after the divorce in 1981. In this relationship, the artist was born a daughter, captured later on the "Betty" picture of the same name.At a difficult moment, Gerhard's personal life, the sculptor of Iza Genzken appeared on the horizon, soon became his second wife. But after 11 years of joint existence, the spouses are tired of each other and broke up without scandals and mutual accusations.
In the mid-1990, the master became close to his own sequence and the student and soon gave her a new name that sounded like Sabin Moritz Richter. Now a family with three joint children lives in Cologne in the fashionable area of Rodenkirchen. The wife helps the artist in creativity and is engaged in the organization of exhibitions and work in the workshop, located near the house in the modern and expensive quarter of the city.
