The history of the group begins since 1968. Then Robert Fripp and Michael Giles decided to create a rock team. Soon three more young performers joined the musicians. When the composition was formed, it was necessary to choose a bright and memorable name for the group.
The name of the project gave Sinfield. In the poem of this young poet, the features of Friedrich II, the "last emperor Romans" are guessed in the image of the raspberry king. Fipp saw the similarity with Velzevuloma in the figure of the mysterious ruler.

Music
The debut performance of the British team passed in the summer of 1969. The audience appreciated the original sound of the compositions, which pushed the musicians to release the first plate. The album "In The Court of the Crimson King" saw light in the fall of the same year. The disk was a professional work that is not inferior in the artistic plane by the leading British art rock teams.Participants were not afraid of experiments with the shape and content of songs. Listeners highly appreciated compositions such as psychedelic "I Talk to the Wind", filled with the Gothic horror "EpitaH", dynamic "Moonchild". The musicians showed that the workshops own the techniques of improvisational rock, boldly introduced in the work of innovative elements. And already in the first record, they showed addiction to polyrhythmia.
The epic was the final plate of the track "The Court of the Crimson King", in which the musicians managed to organically have been in a melody of the sophisticated cadence in a major spirit. Subsequently, the group rarely applied to such a reception, but other British teams used the experience of the "Malin King". Today, musical critics note that the debut album of the team asked the direction to progressive Western Rock.
The project quickly came fame, the musicians began touring. The geography of their performances at first covered the UK, and then the United States. In 1970, the second album called "In The Wake Of Poseidon". The sound and the concept of the record turned out to be close to the debut. The team members represented complicated compositions in which they read both the elements of medieval chorals and jazz-rock motifs.
Subsequent albums of the 70s are not less successful. The group performed a lot with the concerts, and by the end of the decade recorded the seventh album. However, because of private disagreements between the musicians, because of the change of composition, Robert Fripp decided to dissolve the project. In the 80s, Fripp with three musicians formed a new Discipline command. For the compositions of this period, a ballad form, ethnic motifs, guitar improvisations and other elements of art-rock are characteristic.
In the mid-90s, Fripp revives the "Malin King" again. The group includes mainly session musicians. In the 2000s, the picture does not change, the artists first attend Russia with concerts, act in Kazan. Then for several years the team takes a creative vacation.
In early 2010, King Crimson gathered again, now as part of eight musicians. In 2017, the Group announced the yield of a mini-album "Heroes", named after David Bowie's the composition of the same name. In addition, the project went to the tour of Europe.
