Biography

They say a woman on the ship - to trouble. For this reason, the musical groups sometimes disintegrate. For example, the American rock band Sonic Youth, famous in the 1990s and 2000s in the United States and Europe, completed the history in 2011 due to the divorce of musicians.

The history of creation and composition

In 1977, shortly after moving from the suburbs of the State of Florida to New York, Guitarist Truston Moore fastened with neighbors on the room Room Tone group (later changed the name on Coachmen). The history of the project was short-lived. After the collapse, the fate of Mura with Kim Gordon.

First, a group of future spouses was called Male Bonding, then Red Milk and The Arcadians. In June 1981, the musicians found the necessary name - Sonic Youth. Gordon recalled:

"As soon as Thurston came up with the name of Sonic Youth, we purchased that the sound that was dreamed of showing the listener."

From this, the history of the creation of a new American rock band began. Initially, Sonic Youth was included in Kim Gordon (vocals, bass guitar), Truston Moore (vocals, guitar), whether Ranaldo (vocals, guitar) and Richard Edson (drums).

Music

In December 1981, in the New York Studio Sonic Youth, a mini-collection of the same name was recorded, which included 5 demo. His group sent to several key music magazines, and critics gave "Sonic Youth" favorable reviews. The album sounded as a traditional post-punk in contrast to later releases.

The Debut Album "Confusion IS Sex" saw the light in 1983. He was well received in Europe, and New York left Sonic Youth without attention. Enthusiast notes on newcomers in the press appeared only after their catastrophic tour in Europe in 1984: the equipment of the Group failed, and from despair Moore rejected him with his guitar. And when Sonic Youth returned to New York, they were insanely popular, their photos sparkled with magazine covers.

Bad Moon Rising marked in 1985 marked Moore and Gordon's marriage - fatal for Sonic Youth. "Fishka" album were transitions between songs that were performed by Murom and Ranaldo, while other team members set up tools for the next hit. It turned out that the music sounded without a break.

Album "Evol" (1986) became the first on SST Records label, with whom Sonic Youth dreamed of working. The conclusion of the contract between the parties helped the group break out of the underground to the scene. Now even The New York Times wrote:

"Sonic YouTh compose the most strikingly original guitar music since Jimmy Hendrix."

In "Sister" (1987), the Group continued to do an experimental pop. The album is partially inspired by the life and creativity of the science fiction writer Philip K. Dick. The name is a reference to the loss of the twin sister at an early age. "Sister" has developed a circulation of 60 thousand copies.

Over time, Sonic Youth was disappointed in SST Records and switched to Enigma Records. They were released "Daydream Nation" (1988) - an album that brought a significant recognition in the United States. And the best-selling disc was "Goo" (1990).

Sonic Youth discography expanded: "Dirty" (1992), "Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star" (1994), which reached the 34th place in Billboard 200, despite the lack of tour (Gordon wore Moore's child under his heart), " Washing Machine "(1995)," A Thousand Leaves "(1998). In support of the latter, only the single "Sunday" was released, in the clip the main role played Machalya Kalkin.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Sonic Youth began to produce experimental entries on the SYR's own label. Music can be called, rather, instrumental improvisation. Albums and tracks were composed in different languages: "Syr1" in French, "Syr2" in Dutch and so on. Esperanto, Lithuanian, Japanese, Arpitan, Danish were used.

In the 2000s, Sonic Youth has released 5 albums - NYC Ghosts & Flowers (2000), Murray Street (2002), Sonic Nurse (2004), Rather Ripped (2006), "The Eternal" ( 2009), after which they went underground.

Collapse of the collective

On October 14, 2011, Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore announced a divorce. This did not mean the collapse of the collective, but the plans for Sonic Youth became foggy, despite the existing developments for the next album. In November 2013, whether Ranaldo said in an interview:

"All are busy with their own projects, in addition, Thurston and Kim are not very good to get along with each other after the divorce. I think for Sonic Youth you can put a cross just like on the names of Mike Kelly and Lu Reed. Let them all the Earth be Pooh. "

In his autobiography "Girl in the group" (2015) Ranaldo repeatedly indicates that Sonic Youth "broke forever".
