The group was formed in 1983. The main participants were Jimmy Samersville, Larry Steinbachek and Steve Bronsky (Forrest). The decision to create his own project was born unexpectedly - Jimmy saw an announcement in the newspaper that a festival for representatives of gay culture was held in the newspaper.
The guy suggested to friends-musicians to try their strength in the upcoming event, but at that time performers had not had a musical material. Samervil has an old composition screaming. The guys did an original arrangement for the song, adding electronic sound.
At first, the participants came up with the working name of God Forbid for the team, which in Russian can be translated by the expression "God forbid." However, later Steve suggested a more capacious and memorable name Bronski Beat. The creative pseudonym bronchi guy took from the classic novel Günther Grass "Tin Drum".
Such was the name of one of the characters of the work. Steve Forrest, inspired by the book content, decided to change the surname, and then turned it on the name of the group.
Music
Speech at the London Festival passed for a young team successfully. Among the jury was Colin Bell, representing a popular audio recording studio London Records. He liked the composition performed by Trio, and the group received from Bella offer to conclude a contract.Slightly Bronski Beat presented the SMALLTOWN BOY speakers, which immediately became a hit on both sides of the ocean. Later, the musicians took the clip on this song containing autobiographical motives from Jimmy's life. The first albums of the team participants recorded at home on the Larry portable studio. Later, when the compositions became known, and the group gained popularity, the musicians got the opportunity to conduct a professional entry at the studio of Hans Zimmer, known to soundtracks for Hollywood films.
In 1985, Sarmerville decides to leave the group and engage in solo creativity. After the care of the musician, the project participants invited the talented artist John Foster. After a while he left the team, Jonathan Heller came to the place of Vocalist. In such a composition, the Group existed until 1995.
