Svetlana Alexandrovna Masterkova was born in the Siberian city of Achinsk on January 17, 1968 in the family, which did not have any attitude towards mild athletics and other sports.
Children's biography of the future champion is associated with the divorce of parents and moving to the house of Grandparents, where 3 mother sisters lived at that time. Despite the fact that the girl was surrounded by a lot of people, it was some kind of education: young aunt went on dates, and the mother from morning to evening worked as a cook in the local dining room.
In school years, Light did not think about the future and did not dream of any championship career. In an athletics section, she accidentally accidentally at the invitation of Coach Natalia Nikolaevna Shakurova, who had selected among students of junior classes.
The first lesson of the workshop came absolutely unprepared, since relatives had no money for sports shoes and training suit. This circumstance upset the girl, and she did not appear to the next training session. The long-awaited toy was never presented, and the 3rd youthful discharge on athletics and respect of peers and teachers was in the incentive. In addition, the relationship in the stadium was successful, and soon Svetlana became the heroine of local newspapers.
New achievements appeared after the transition to the Anatoly Volkov section, which recommended the workshop professionally engage in running and continue training in one of the Moscow schools. This decision was supported by another athlete mentor Arkady Rosenberg, who worked with her in 1986-1987.
Parting with the family was hard, because with the mother, which moved to Krasnoyarsk, Sveta saw only during the competition. Athletics
When the workshop came to Moscow, in her asset there were victory on all-union youth games at an 800-meter distance and the title of three-time champion of the USSR among girls is not over 18 years old. With such results, the girl began to train under the leadership of Svetlana Plescach-Styrkin and Yakov, Yemelyanov and soon reached the first top, winning a distance of 800 meters at the last national championship of the USSR in 1991.Then there was an unsuccessful world championship in Tokyo, where Masterkova became the eighth, lily by Lilija Nurutdinova, Ana Fidelia Kyroti, Ella Kovach and other eminent rivals.
In his youth, in parallel with professional performances, Svetlana worked as an instructor on physical education in the metropolitan council of the Society "Labor Reserves" and was engaged in controlling classes for children in various sports in the schools of Moscow.
Official duties did not interfere with the runner to improve their own norms and prepare for national and international competitions. True, after the Russian Championship of 1993, Masterkova was forced to interrupt training due to injury, and the World Championship in the German city of Stuttgart passed without her.

As a result, Masterkova easily overcame qualifying rounds at competitions in the American Atlanta and became the two-time Olympic champion in athletics in corona disciplines 800 and 1500 meters.
In the same year, the Russian woman who established the world record in running by 1 km, overcoming the distance in 2 minutes 28.29 seconds and demonstrating the unsurpassed result at the distance to Mile, was recognized as the best athlete of the year and received the nickname of the Queen of athletics.

Having completed a professional career in 2003, Masterkova could not part with sports and became a television commentator broadcasts in the Russian company NTV-Plus. Sholokhov and defended his dissertation on history in the State Pedagogical University of the capital.
